Someone recently asked me what were the top 5 things I wish I knew when starting my coaching business.
I loved the question. If you are in start up or playing with the idea of starting a business learn from my mistakes. Do these 5 things and you will grow your business faster than I did!
1. Network like a champion.
This means to ask the people you are networking with to talk about themselves. Ask them what they do and ask how you can help them. Take every business card you get and send an email that states you sincerely appreciate meeting them. I made the mistake of talking all about myself and what I need. I would reverse it…its way more effective.
2. Nurture those relationships!
Get a realistic plan (this will take time to learn what is realistic the more you do this) about who you will follow up with and how. Send helpful articles to them that may serve them, etc. The point of this is to be top of mind. Because you are taking the time to SERVE them this will go a long way.
3. After you have served them, don’t forget to ask for business.
Make an offer (which, by the way is still serving them) of your services, workshops, products, etc.
4. If you are thinking about doing a podcast, do one sooner than later.
I have met more people through interviews on my podcast that has led to more business, JV partners, and expanded my reach to build my audience in the last three months (since I started) than I did the prior 8 months.
5. Pace yourself.
I burnt myself out quickly because I was going way too hard, way too fast. I was scattered and unfocused. Pick 1-2 strategies and commit to consistently doing those. Once you begin mastering those strategies you can build from there.
