Have you ever longed for something so bad that it almost hurt? I have- in fact, I still yearn for it. I have been speaking to a couple of people that are in a place of longing for their breakthrough. Waiting patiently and expectantly for God to give us the desires of our hearts is easier to state then to actually apply. At least that is the case for me. I have cried, complained, whined and got really snippy with people while I pace back and forth in the “waiting room.” I have exhausted large amounts of energy being angry that it is taking so long and tried to speed up the process. Those are my favorite lessons (and often most humorous) when I seriously think I can run ahead of God and beat him to the prize. I end up getting tackled to the ground instead.
If you are like me and are in a position of waiting you may be wondering, what do we do during the wait? Here are some of the repeated lessons, reminders and encouragement that I get through other’s and reading scriptures:
Yup, my least favorite word and greatest challenge. I don’t even like praying for patience. That’s how impatient I can be. I know that praying for patience will likely bring me plenty of opportunities to develop it. I don’t want to practice and develop it. I just want it and I want it now. Forget working for it. However, that is not how it works. Patience is PRODUCED. It is a fruit of the Spirit that has to be exercised and developed daily.
I recently studied scriptures on patience. Initially, I was not a happy camper at what I read. It was all about waiting with expectation, remaining faithful in the process and THEN in DUE season we will receive our harvest. There was no promise of IMMIDATELY receiving. There was no specific time given. All I seemed to find was that if I commit to God and delight in Him, He will give me the desires of my heart. I just don’t know WHEN.
2. THE PRIZE IS GREATER THAN THE SUFFERING:
Sometimes I can get so irritable that it is taking SOOOOOO LOOONNNNGGG for momentum to pick up and for my breakthrough that I can magnify the pain I feel while I am waiting. This leads to anger, short tempered outbursts, child-like behavior, damaged relationships and reputation, etc. Keeping my eye on the prize and persevering with endurance to the end is key to actually reaching the prize. Looking at your circumstance, what you don’t have, being jealous that other people received their blessing before you, etc. are all things that I have been guilty of and make your suffering WORSE.
STOP DOING THAT! Look at all the blessings you already have, the progress you have already made and that will fuel you to go further. Look around you and see that other’s are with you. There are people cheering you on- appreciate them. I know it hurts. I know your tired. I know you want it to be over- but keep moving. When you get there – and you SURELY will IF you keep moving- all the pain, effort, time, etc. will seem like nothing compared to the glory of receiving your prize.
3. TRUST GOD:
God knows what He is doing even if you don’t. Trust that He has heard your prayers, cries, and petitions. He knows what you desire and He promises to give them to you. TRUST Him to do so in His TIMING and His WAY. There is no sense getting all worked up about how long it is taking if you know He has your back and is working out His best for you. He will not give you something that you can’t handle yet. Instead of whining about it ask Him to show you what you need to learn so you can be successful with it.
The lesson that I know I need to learn is……PATIENCE! So I am happy to pray for it. I delight in the opportunity to develop it. I catch my emotions when I fret over small things and quickly surrender the situation to Him and walk away from it. My peace is greater- Yours will be too! In DUE SEASON you will REAP a BOUNTIFUL HARVEST.
What are you waiting for?
